Drying

Each step of converting a standing tree into a wood product adds value to that good. No step is perhaps more important than the drying process. Drying wood too fast can cause various forms of warp as well as checking and splitting. On the other hand, drying too slow adds cost to producers and can result in appearance degrades. These publications explain the science of wood drying, the methods available to dry wood, and recommended kiln schedules for specific species.
